Have you ever wondered if you belonged in a group?
Or walked into a room, turned around, and left because you felt out of place?
We have all been there, in that place of uncertainty. It isn’t a comfortable place, right? Many times uncertainty and fear of the unknown can cause a paralyzing impact. In that moment we must choose to stay in place or to move. What will you do?
Recently, I was in a place where I started to question if I really belonged among the successful women in the room. As I sat in my seat, I debated if I should talk to the others around me. I questioned if I should mingle with others throughout the event. This was my moment of uncertainty.
So many thoughts went through my mind. Are they going to snub me? What if I am not good enough to join in the conversation? Am I out of my league here?
And then I recalled one of my main goals for 2017, which is to be bold. In that moment, I decided that fear wouldn’t stop me. I stood up from my seat, made my way around the room and talked with people who didn’t know I even existed. It was scary, but necessary.
It was necessary because I needed to self acknowledge that I belonged in the room. Ultimately, no one needed to tell me that I belonged. I needed to just own it and be okay with who I was in the space.
So what does this have to do with fitness and health, right?
Maybe some of you are in a space where you feel like you don’t belong and not sure how to move forward. You want to exercise but are nervous about joining a gym. You want to change your meal choices but wonder if you will look out of place. You want to change how you care for your body, but you feel scared about being different or standing out. Is that you?
I want you to know that you belong. It is okay to own your nervousness and insecurities, BUT you can’t let them hold you back. You have to enter into that space that has been trying to hinder you from your goals and aspirations. Your health and well-being are more important than those things that get in the way.
You can move forward to the goals that seem unattainable. The key is to get up and move!
Take the first step out of your comfort zone.
I know I am glad I did.
I know you will too.
Go ahead and take your place into where you belong!
How will you make the first step?
