Get active outdoors with these 3 easy beginner exercises.
Getting active outdoors at home is a great way to meet your fitness and weight loss goals. Being outdoors offers fresh air, wide open space, and benefits your mental well being too!
Here are a few of my favorites that I suggest for beginners to do.
- Jump Rope – This is an effective way to warm up your body and get a quick cardio workout. The price of a standard jump rope is less than $5. If jumping rope is a challenge for you, just pretend you have a jump rope, the movement is the same and you will develop a rhythm over time. First, get started by setting a timer for 30-60 seconds. Next repeat the jump rope exercise for 3-5 sets (progress to greater time and sets once you have mastered this). Between each interval take a short break consisting of 15-30 secs.
- Run/Walk – A brisk walk or run around your neighborhood or even back and forth in your driveway is an easy way to be active. The best part of this self paced work out is that you control the intensity. The key is to keep moving, alternate between a moderate and brisk pace. 30 minutes a day can jumpstart your results for weight loss.
- Forward Walking Lunges – This stability and strength training exercise can be done in your front or backyard space. Begin the lunges moving forward and alternating each leg for 4 steps. Next turn around repeating the exercise while returning to the original starting spot. Repeat for 3-5 sets. Click here for the basics of a forward lunge.
Now you have 3 outdoor exercises you can do starting today! No equipment required, remember a jump rope is optional. These exercises can be performed without leaving your home and best of all they are just as effective as exercises done at the gym. Thinking about doing more workouts from home?
