The weather is starting to change and there is so much change in the air. Plans for your summer body didn’t turn out exactly like you wanted. Actually things may have turned out a bit worst than how you started.
Have you found yourself thinking that you fell off the fitness track, now what?
I know you probably set out early in the year to lose weight, eat healthier, and be more active, but it didn’t quite happen. You aren’t alone. Life events happen and we all get thrown off track sometimes. The good thing is, it isn’t over. The goals can still be met. The chance for healthier lifestyle is still possible.
This time let’s make a plan so when the season changes again you will be ready to show off your results.
Here’s how you get back on track
Lessons Learned. Make a list of the challenges you faced that got you off track. Next to each item identify a strategy that can help you if this happens again. For example, let’s say a change in your work schedule was the challenge. A strategy might be waking up 30 minutes earlier and doing a home workout.
Reestablish Your Goals. Decide if your past goals are still appropriate and realistic. Make sure each goal is specific, measurable, and time bound. This helps keep your goals clear and gives you accountability measures. For example, a weekly exercise goal can be stated, I will run for 20 minutes in the morning 3 days (Mon, Wed, Fri) each week for 1 month starting tomorrow.
Be Consistent. There will be distractions and challenges as you work toward your goals. The key is regularity! Keep going even when it gets tough. Eventually your plan will become natural and a part of your daily routine. For example, on a rainy day don’t cancel your workout. Instead modify your outdoor activity with indoor exercises.
As the season changes, we start to cover up our body in layers of clothing for the decreasing temperatures and tend to forget about our fitness goals. However, I want to tell you that just because cooler weather is approaching your goals don’t have to disappear.
